SME Chapter 21 Family Event on August 23rd - Tour of the Fernald Site followed by a Picnic at Miami Whitewater Forest
SME Chapter 21 is happy to invite you to our annual family event. This
year we will tour the historical Fernald Closure Project. Fernald is a
former uranium processing facility that underwent environmental
remediation and has been turned into a nature preserve. We will tour
the Visitor's Center which will tell the story of this piece of land as
it relates to the native americans, settlers, farmers, weapons
production, clean up and its recent transformation as a nature
preserve. To learn more about the Fernald Closure Project, please click here. For directions to Fernald, please click here.
Following the tour of the historical
Fernald Site, we will move to Miami Whitewater Forest for a picnic. The
Chapter will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks. You are
encouraged to bring some side dishes and snacks to share with the
members and their families. Miami Whitewater park has plenty of fun
activities for families. To learn more about the park, please click here. For direction to the park, please click here.
